The scope of PRIMIS+ services

Education and training to develop skills in the extraction, handling and analysis of primary care data and information management, with the aim of improving data quality in general practice

Data extraction and analytical tools to enable the extraction, handling, processing and analysis of primary care data at patient, GP practice, local and national level

Practical support to primary care trusts, health informatic services and clinical commissioning groups to improve data quality among their constituent GP practices through a national network of PRIMIS+ Information facilitators

Technical specification writing and consultancy to enable the collection of data from GP clinical information systems, supporting a range of local and national data extraction initiatives and activities

Implementation support services to organisations embarking on national GP practice data collection and analysis activities

Research to investigate, discover and develop new methods, systems or approaches to advance primary care data entry, validation and retrieval
Elements of the PRIMIS+ service are funded by The NHS Information Centre for health and social care and can be accessed for free, including education and training, support to primary care organisations for data quality improvement programmes and access to data extraction and analytical tools.
Free training and support is offered to those employed by primary care trusts, health informatic services and clinical commissioning groups (except employees on the provider side). Data extraction and analytical tools are also freely available to this group as well as GP practices.
