PRIMIS was a finalist in the Training category and, though not finishing in first place, was proud to be described as a leading-edge project "from which the rest of the service has a lot to learn" by HSJ editor Peter Davies. This year saw a record number of 361 entries, more than in any year since the awards were devised in 1982, with only 30 going through to the finals.
The winner in the Training category was Wessex Deanery for Postgraduate Medical Education for its enhanced management of the education of hospital doctors, which was described as "an impressive piece of work" by the judges. The third finalist in the Training category was Bedfordshire and Luton Community Trust for their Hearts and Minds drama group, described by the judges as "as a really special project". The judges' citation for PRIMIS said:
"The topic is of the utmost importance and the team is making a significant difference. The judges were pleased to see the stress put on the importance of changing underlying attitudes and habits. Judging from the presentation, this is a group of people who get a great deal of enjoyment from their work."
The PRIMIS Team congratulates all HSJ Management Awards winners and finalists.
