The nine PRIMIS trainers are based at four regional centres at the Universities of Nottingham, Manchester, Bristol and Surrey. Once a primary care organisation has had its project plan approved and has appointed an information facilitator (see Accessing PRIMIS), a PRIMIS trainer will be allocated to the scheme and will start the facilitator's training.

In addition to their own tailor-made individual training programmes, facilitators will also have the opportunity to take part each year in a regional Forum in their area, which will give them the opportunity to meet other PRIMIS facilitators in the region and to share experience and good practice.

The first Regional Facilitators' Forum will take place in the South West region on Thursday, 18 January 2001, followed by the Eastern and Central Region meeting on Wednesday, 24 January 2001.
